Video of King’s football team

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Here’s some video I found on YouTube of the King’s High School football team. It’s a highlight tape with good information on some of King’s top players. Nooksack Valley travels to play King’s in the Class 1A state quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 20.

Marysville-Pilchuck rusher challenging state mark

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Here’s a link to a story in the Seattle Times about Marysville-Pilchuck running back Austin Denton and his quest to set the state’s single-season rushing record. So what does this have to do with Whatcom County? Well he’s chasing former Ferndale standout Matthias Wilson who set the mark with 2,678 yards in 1997. Denton has 2,055 yards so far this season.

Watch video highlights from Blaine vs. Lynden football

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Here are video highlights from Lynden’s 28-14 win over Blaine last week. It was produced by a Blaine parent so it’s tends toward Borderites highlights, but it’s a good watch. Be sure to check out Caleb Statham’s 99-yard TD run about 40 seconds into the video. And watch Lynden’s closing speed. WOW.

Injury updates on Sehome’s Santos, Bellingham’s Elliott

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

The Sehome football team got some,  bad news this week when it found out Justin Santos will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a fracture across the top of his foot. Santos led the Northwest Conference in rushing last season and had collected 166 yards this year before getting injury. Also a standout wrestler, his status for the wrestling season isn’t known at this point.

I also heard from Bellingham athletic director Brian Smith that senior Hunter Elliott escaped a scary collision on Saturday during the Red Raiders’ game against Lynden without a serious spinal injury. Elliott left the game on a backboard in the back of an ambulance after trying to make a tackle covering a kick. Smith said Elliott has a concussion, but his MRI test results did not show any spinal injury.

It was a scary 20 minutes at Civic Stadium on Saturday while Elliott was on the ground waiting for an ambulance to arrive. It sounds like he’ll be OK, and that’s good news.
